I had the chance a few weeks ago to take photo's with Miss Dehmey. She's very talented and in the midst of photo excitement, I also got to interview her for the next Boss Bitch segment:
What inspires you?
Strangers in public inspire me. I see so many different people each day and I wonder if they're happy or sad, successful or struggling, married or independent, etc. My curiosity of others makes me think about who I want to be and how my future is going to lay out.
What’s your sign and how do you think that plays a part in your life?
I don't know much about astrology.
What is the main purpose of your account/brand?
I started up a name (brand) for my photography because I loved creating the art and sharing it with others. I found that portrait photography was my favorite, so I started offering free senior portraits. Going to college is very stressful financially, and everyone deserves to feel beautiful without a price tag.
What is something you love deeply about yourself?
I love my mental balance. I'm a hard worker, but I don't overwork myself. I want to be a genuine and well liked person, but I realize not everyone will like me. I worry about important things in life, but I'm able to let go of other things. I think this is something I'm very fortunate to have.
What’s some advice you have for girls revolving around confidence?
One of the saddest things I see in high school is girls who act a certain way because they feel like they have to fit a certain mold. The coolest thing ever is seeing a girl rock her own thing. Wear what you want, be friends with who you want, act however you want. I learned the hard way that people will respect you more for rocking yourself.
What makes you feel confident?
I feel really confident wearing no makeup. I love feeling natural and knowing that people are seeing the real me. But hey on the other hand if you are a makeup wiz then RESPECT because you have a very rare skill and you should flaunt it.
What have you had to overcome that’s made you who you are?
Firstly I would like to say that I am very fortunate to have had good health and a stable life growing up. I have never had to overcome any deep hardship, but there is one thing that has shaped me. My first real boyfriend was very manipulative and I let him walk all over me. In summary, I was trapped because I felt like I would have nothing without him. When you're in that situation it's so hard to see things clearly. Now, I realize my worth and gained a lot of confidence back.
Who are your biggest inspirations?
My biggest inspirations aren't celebrities and musicians like most youth may say. I look up to all of the service men and women (police, military, fire, etc) who fight for our rights without seeking recognition.
What’s your beauty/fashion go to?
I cant say I'm a huge fashion guru but my go to style would lean towards moderately grunge/skater and it makes me feel badass.
What would you say is the best thing about you?
The best thing about me is my work ethic. Something inside of me just makes me feel like I can't fail or not try my best, and it drives me to do my best at everything in life.
What does feminism mean to you?
My technical view may differ from others, but feminism to me does not mean anything politically charged. To me, it just means that girls need to be on the same team and need to have each others backs and hype each other up.
