Boss Bitch Spotlight - Kelsie Williams

What inspires you?

Everything. Mostly the people I’m surrounded by and what they do. And my family, especially my mom.

What’s your sign and how do you think that plays a part in your life?

Aquarius. I’m very much an aquarius. I feel like they contract themselves because they’re independent, and I’m independent, but they think in a way of “I don’t need help from other people” when sometimes you do need help. Made me very go with the flow. I don’t have strong options, I can if I want to, but almost anything goes.

What is the main purpose of your account/brand?

I’ve gone through a lot of social media“brand” phases. It started off being to help and inspire people through body positivity (pictures and captions). When I got into photography it became more a creative outlet. A little bit of everything now because I want it to be real and the truth, not fake and perf ct. I’d rather them see the real me and see I have issues and mental illness and stress and that’s okay because we're all growing and I want people to be able to see that in a positive way.

What is something you love deeply about yourself?

I love how undeniably caring I am. I would do anything for anyone. I have so much compassion and empathy and love for people and I admire that because the world is so mean these days.

What’s some advice you have for girls revolving around confidence?

Take a step back and ask what is really and what’s not real. Sometimes girls get caught up in body image but it’s mostly just options and thoughts and it’s not true. “Fat” is just a concept. We as humans categorize. This time of year with swimwear girls get nervous and need to remember what’s real, water, sand, you. You’re real and breathing and living and we get caught up in being this thing that it doesn’t really matter. We all should just support each other.

What makes you feel confident?

I feel most confident when I’m with people who support me. I’ve learned toxic people really do affect the way you act and live your life, I feel most secure when people support my passions.

What have you had to overcome that’s made you who you are?

Probably my anxiety. I still struggle with it, but when I was younger it was a very intense social anxiety where I had this fear that when I was invited it would be a joke and people would laugh. That’s movie stuff. Overcoming that and realizing people like being around me, they hangout with me not because they feel bad for me. Taking a step back has helped me overcome this anxiety and be better when they come back up.

Who are your biggest inspirations?

I don’t idol a lot of people, there are no celebrities I really look up to. My mom is someone I really admire. She keeps going and pushing and is a good example of how life keeps going and is always trying new things.

What’s your beauty/fashion go to?

Makeup wise, I wear minimal to no makeup more often than a full face and I feel good about that. My go to would be Glossier's bow brow and a little eyeliner and mascara. Outfit wise, I’m quite simple these days. Some jean shorts and a T-shirt always feels good and comfy. Not having hair is as bold as it gets for where I live.

What would you say is the best thing about you?

My dad humour.

What does feminism mean to you?

Feminism is life. If you don’t stand for women’s rights, I don’t stand for you. Feminism is about supporting both genders and the inequalities in both realms. In women's case, they outweigh men’s inequalities, so there’s more push for women. Including; clothing, pay and forced marriage. We should all be living in an equal place to help each other out. There’s are things men can do better, but things women can do too. We all have strengths and weaknesses but we should all help out. Be one. Live happily ever after.
