Boss Bitch Spotlight: Olivia The Artist

What inspires you?

I truly believe that attending an art school has been a monumental turning point in what inspires me. Being around artists and creators with differing motives and ideas has instilled new values in me when making work. Additionally, I am inspired by a multitude of things, such as clothing, package design, music, color theory, animals, tattoos, plants ... it honestly never ends. In retrospect, I think that the most amount of inspiration that I receive is from other artists.

What’s your sign?

Honestly, I do not believe in star signs. The concept has never been something I value for myself. I’m not knocking the value of following your sign, but I do not think this ideal is necessarily for me.

What is the main purpose of your brand?

My brand is utilized to express the way I present my thoughts and visualizes my visions. I am an evolving and ever changing creator, and I want that to be a large part of my artistry. I do not specialize in any one medium, so I devote my evolution to experimentation and figuring out how to convey my messages in a visual light.

What is something you love deeply about yourself?

I like how much I evolve within an artistic style. I am open to trying and experimenting with different mediums, artistic programs, and concepts. This ideal helps me enjoy the process of art making and navigating through problem solving.

What makes you feel confident? I believe that having self confidence, especially with your work, is monumentally important. When you feel positively about your practice, you are able to channel that confidence in other aspects of your life. This is an ideal that shows that if you are passionate about something, you will be passionate about other things that make you the person you are supposed to be!

What have you had to overcome that’s made you who you are? Mental illness is a large block that prevents me from becoming my fullest self. Openly struggling with this, I have had rough periods in my life where I was not able to produce much work. after a little while, though, I am always able to channel that negativity into a learning experience, and I am able to move on.

Who are your biggest inspirations?

I’d have to say my art teacher back at home, Gabriel Middleton, is my biggest source of inspiration. This is because he went the extra mile with teaching me valuable foundational lessons within art. I miss him while I’m at school! Another inspirational person to me is Shepard Fairey, the creator of Obey. When I found out about his artistic upbringing, I completely understood what I wanted to accomplish in the art world.

What’s your beauty/fashion go to?

My fashion go to has to be Shepard Fairey with his Obey brand. This company helped me to become an artist originally, and I like to pay homage to Fairey by citing him as the main inspiration for my art career.

What would you say is the best thing about you?

I would say the best thing about me is my dedication to the art community.

What does feminism mean to you?

Feminism means an equal treatment of all individuals despite gender, sexuality, face, ethnicity, or economic background.
